ਉਰਿ ਧਾਰੈ ਜੋ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ॥

उरि धारै जो अंतरि नामु ॥
One who enshrines the Naam within
the heart,
ਸਰਬ ਮੈ ਪੇਖੈ ਭਗਵਾਨੁ ॥
Sarab Mai Paekhai Bhagavaan ||
सरब मै पेखै भगवानु ॥
Who sees the Lord God in all,
ਨਿਮਖ ਨਿਮਖ ਠਾਕੁਰ ਨਮਸਕਾਰੈ ॥

निमख निमख ठाकुर नमसकारै ॥
Who, each and every moment, bows in
reverence to the Lord Master

Whose mind is filled with love for

Whose ears do not listen to slander

सभ ते जानै आपस कउ मंदा ॥
Who deems himself to be the worst of
all,
ਗੁਰ ਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿ ਬਿਖਿਆ ਪਰਹਰੈ ॥
Gur Prasaadh Bikhiaa Pareharai ||
गुर प्रसादि बिखिआ परहरै ॥
Who, by Guru's Grace, renounces
corruption,
ਮਨ ਕੀ ਬਾਸਨਾ ਮਨ ਤੇ ਟਰੈ ॥
Man Kee Baasanaa Man Thae Ttarai
||
मन की बासना मन ते टरै ॥
Who banishes the mind's evil desires
from his mind,
ਇੰਦ੍ਰੀ ਜਿਤ ਪੰਚ ਦੋਖ ਤੇ ਰਹਤ ॥

इंद्री जित पंच दोख ते रहत ॥
Who conquers his sexual instincts
and is free of the five sinful passions

- O Nanak, among millions, there is
scarcely one such 'touch-nothing Saint'. ||1||

बैसनो सो जिसु ऊपरि सुप्रसंन ॥
The true Vaishnaav, the devotee of
Vishnu, is the one with whom God is thoroughly pleased.
ਬਿਸਨ ਕੀ ਮਾਇਆ ਤੇ ਹੋਇ ਭਿੰਨ ॥

बिसन की माइआ ते होइ भिंन ॥
He dwells apart from Maya.
ਕਰਮ ਕਰਤ ਹੋਵੈ ਨਿਹਕਰਮ ॥

करम करत होवै निहकरम ॥
Performing good deeds, he does not
seek rewards.
ਤਿਸੁ ਬੈਸਨੋ ਕਾ ਨਿਰਮਲ ਧਰਮ ॥

तिसु बैसनो का निरमल धरम ॥
Spotlessly pure is the religion of
such a Vaishnaav;
ਕਾਹੂ ਫਲ ਕੀ ਇਛਾ ਨਹੀ ਬਾਛੈ ॥
Kaahoo Fal Kee Eishhaa Nehee
Baashhai ||
काहू फल की इछा नही बाछै ॥
He has no desire for the fruits of
his labors.
ਕੇਵਲ ਭਗਤਿ ਕੀਰਤਨ ਸੰਗਿ ਰਾਚੈ ॥

केवल भगति कीरतन संगि राचै ॥
He is absorbed in devotional worship
and the singing of Kirtan, the songs of the Lord's Glory.

मन तन अंतरि सिमरन गोपाल ॥
Within his mind and body, he
meditates in remembrance on the Lord of the Universe.

सभ ऊपरि होवत किरपाल ॥
He is kind to all creatures.
ਆਪਿ ਦ੍ਰਿੜੈ ਅਵਰਹ ਨਾਮੁ ਜਪਾਵੈ ॥

आपि द्रिड़ै अवरह नामु जपावै ॥
He holds fast to the Naam, and
inspires others to chant it.

All doubts are removed from his
mind.

करि पूजै सगल पारब्रहमु ॥
He performs devotional service to
the Supreme Lord God in all.

साधसंगि पापा मलु खोवै ॥
In the Company of the Holy, the
filth of sin is washed away.

He dedicates his mind and body to
the Love of God.

हरि के चरन हिरदै बसावै ॥
The Lotus Feet of the Lord abide in
his heart.
ਨਾਨਕ ਐਸਾ ਭਗਉਤੀ ਭਗਵੰਤ ਕਉ ਪਾਵੈ ॥੩॥

O Nanak, such a Bhagaautee attains

So Panddith Jo Man Parabodhhai ||
सो पंडितु जो मनु परबोधै ॥
He is a true Pandit, a religious
scholar, who instructs his own mind.
ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮੁ ਆਤਮ ਮਹਿ ਸੋਧੈ ॥
Raam Naam Aatham Mehi Sodhhai ||
राम नामु आतम महि सोधै ॥
He searches for the Lord's Name
within his own soul.
ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮ ਸਾਰੁ ਰਸੁ ਪੀਵੈ ॥
Raam Naam Saar Ras Peevai ||
राम नाम सारु रसु पीवै ॥
He drinks in the Exquisite Nectar of
the Lord's Name.
ਉਸੁ ਪੰਡਿਤ ਕੈ ਉਪਦੇਸਿ ਜਗੁ ਜੀਵੈ ॥

उसु पंडित कै उपदेसि जगु जीवै ॥
By that Pandit's teachings, the

हरि की कथा हिरदै बसावै ॥
He implants the Sermon of the Lord
in his heart.
ਸੋ ਪੰਡਿਤੁ ਫਿਰਿ ਜੋਨਿ ਨ ਆਵੈ ॥
So Panddith Fir Jon N Aavai ||
सो पंडितु फिरि जोनि न आवै ॥
Such a Pandit is not cast into the
womb of reincarnation again.
ਬੇਦ ਪੁਰਾਨ ਸਿਮ੍ਰਿਤਿ ਬੂਝੈ ਮੂਲ ॥

बेद पुरान सिम्रिति बूझै मूल ॥
He understands the fundamental
essence of the Vedas, the Puraanas and the Simritees.
ਸੂਖਮ ਮਹਿ ਜਾਨੈ ਅਸਥੂਲੁ ॥
Sookham Mehi Jaanai Asathhool ||
सूखम महि जानै असथूलु ॥
In the unmanifest, he sees the
manifest world to exist.
ਚਹੁ ਵਰਨਾ ਕਉ ਦੇ ਉਪਦੇਸੁ ॥
Chahu Varanaa Ko Dhae Oupadhaes
||
चहु वरना कउ दे उपदेसु ॥
He gives instruction to people of
all castes and social classes.
ਨਾਨਕ ਉਸੁ ਪੰਡਿਤ ਕਉ ਸਦਾ ਅਦੇਸੁ ॥੪॥

नानक उसु पंडित कउ सदा अदेसु ॥४॥
O Nanak, to such a Pandit, I bow in
salutation forever. ||4||
ਬੀਜ ਮੰਤ੍ਰੁ ਸਰਬ ਕੋ ਗਿਆਨੁ ॥
Beej Manthra Sarab Ko Giaan ||
बीज मंत्रु सरब को गिआनु ॥
The Beej Mantra, the Seed Mantra, is
spiritual wisdom for everyone.
ਚਹੁ ਵਰਨਾ ਮਹਿ ਜਪੈ ਕੋਊ ਨਾਮੁ ॥
Chahu Varanaa Mehi Japai Kooo
Naam ||
चहु वरना महि जपै कोऊ नामु ॥
Anyone, from any class, may chant
the Naam.
ਜੋ ਜੋ ਜਪੈ ਤਿਸ ਕੀ ਗਤਿ ਹੋਇ ॥
Jo Jo Japai This Kee Gath Hoe ||
जो जो जपै तिस की गति होइ ॥
Whoever chants it, is emancipated.
ਸਾਧਸੰਗਿ ਪਾਵੈ ਜਨੁ ਕੋਇ ॥
Saadhhasang Paavai Jan Koe ||
साधसंगि पावै जनु कोइ ॥
And yet, rare are those who attain
it, in the Company of the Holy.
ਕਰਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਉਰ ਧਾਰੈ ॥

करि किरपा अंतरि उर धारै ॥
By His Grace, He enshrines it

ਪਸੁ ਪ੍ਰੇਤ ਮੁਘਦ ਪਾਥਰ ਕਉ ਤਾਰੈ ॥

पसु प्रेत मुघद पाथर कउ तारै ॥
Even beasts, ghosts and the
stone-hearted are saved.
ਸਰਬ ਰੋਗ ਕਾ ਅਉਖਦੁ ਨਾਮੁ ॥
Sarab Rog Kaa Aoukhadh Naam ||
सरब रोग का अउखदु नामु ॥
The Naam is the panacea, the remedy
to cure all ills.
ਕਲਿਆਣ ਰੂਪ ਮੰਗਲ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਮ ॥
Kaliaan Roop Mangal Gun Gaam ||
कलिआण रूप मंगल गुण गाम ॥
Singing the Glory of God is the
embodiment of bliss and emancipation.
ਕਾਹੂ ਜੁਗਤਿ ਕਿਤੈ ਨ ਪਾਈਐ ਧਰਮਿ ॥

काहू जुगति कितै न पाईऐ धरमि ॥
It cannot be obtained by any
religious rituals.

नानक तिसु मिलै जिसु लिखिआ धुरि करमि ॥५॥
O Nanak, he alone obtains it, whose
karma is so pre-ordained. ||5||

One whose mind is a home for the
Supreme Lord God.
ਤਿਸ ਕਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਸਤਿ ਰਾਮਦਾਸੁ ॥
This Kaa Naam Sath Raamadhaas ||
तिस का नामु सति रामदासु ॥
- his name is truly Ram Das, the
Lord's servant.
ਆਤਮ ਰਾਮੁ ਤਿਸੁ ਨਦਰੀ ਆਇਆ ॥
Aatham Raam This Nadharee Aaeiaa
||
आतम रामु तिसु नदरी आइआ ॥
He comes to have the Vision of the
Lord, the Supreme Soul.
ਦਾਸ ਦਸੰਤਣ ਭਾਇ ਤਿਨਿ ਪਾਇਆ ॥
Dhaas Dhasanthan Bhaae Thin
Paaeiaa ||
दास दसंतण भाइ तिनि पाइआ ॥
Deeming himself to be the slave of
the Lord's slaves, he obtains it.
ਸਦਾ ਨਿਕਟਿ ਨਿਕਟਿ ਹਰਿ ਜਾਨੁ ॥
Sadhaa Nikatt Nikatt Har Jaan ||
सदा निकटि निकटि हरि जानु ॥
He knows the Lord to be
Ever-present, close at hand.
ਸੋ ਦਾਸੁ ਦਰਗਹ ਪਰਵਾਨੁ ॥
So Dhaas Dharageh Paravaan ||
सो दासु दरगह परवानु ॥
Such a servant is honored in the
Court of the Lord.
ਅਪੁਨੇ ਦਾਸ ਕਉ ਆਪਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਕਰੈ ॥
Apunae Dhaas Ko
Aap Kirapaa Karai ||
अपुने दास कउ आपि किरपा करै ॥
To His servant, He Himself shows His
Mercy.
ਤਿਸੁ ਦਾਸ ਕਉ ਸਭ ਸੋਝੀ ਪਰੈ ॥
This Dhaas Ko Sabh Sojhee Parai
||
तिसु दास कउ सभ सोझी परै ॥
Such a servant understands
everything.
ਸਗਲ ਸੰਗਿ ਆਤਮ ਉਦਾਸੁ ॥
Sagal Sang Aatham Oudhaas ||
सगल संगि आतम उदासु ॥
Amidst all, his soul is unattached.
ਐਸੀ ਜੁਗਤਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਰਾਮਦਾਸੁ ॥੬॥
Aisee Jugath Naanak Raamadhaas
||6||
ऐसी जुगति नानक रामदासु ॥६॥
Such is the way, O Nanak, of the
Lord's servant. ||6||
ਪ੍ਰਭ ਕੀ ਆਗਿਆ ਆਤਮ ਹਿਤਾਵੈ ॥
Prabh Kee Aagiaa Aatham Hithaavai
||
प्रभ की आगिआ आतम हितावै ॥
One who, in his soul, loves the Will
of God,
ਜੀਵਨ ਮੁਕਤਿ ਸੋਊ ਕਹਾਵੈ ॥
Jeevan Mukath Sooo Kehaavai ||
जीवन मुकति सोऊ कहावै ॥
Is said to be Jivan Mukta -
liberated while yet alive.
ਤੈਸਾ ਹਰਖੁ ਤੈਸਾ ਉਸੁ ਸੋਗੁ ॥
Thaisaa Harakh Thaisaa Ous Sog ||
तैसा हरखु तैसा उसु सोगु ॥
As is joy, so is sorrow to him.
ਸਦਾ ਅਨੰਦੁ ਤਹ ਨਹੀ ਬਿਓਗੁ ॥
Sadhaa Anandh Theh Nehee Bioug ||
सदा अनंदु तह नही बिओगु ॥
He is in eternal bliss, and is not
separated from God.
ਤੈਸਾ ਸੁਵਰਨੁ ਤੈਸੀ ਉਸੁ ਮਾਟੀ ॥
Thaisaa Suvaran Thaisee Ous
Maattee ||
तैसा सुवरनु तैसी उसु माटी ॥
As is gold, so is dust to him.
ਤੈਸਾ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੁ ਤੈਸੀ ਬਿਖੁ ਖਾਟੀ ॥
Thaisaa Anmrith Thaisee Bikh
Khaattee ||
तैसा अम्रितु तैसी बिखु खाटी ॥
As is ambrosial nectar, so is bitter
poison to him.
ਤੈਸਾ ਮਾਨੁ ਤੈਸਾ ਅਭਿਮਾਨੁ ॥
Thaisaa Maan Thaisaa Abhimaan ||
तैसा मानु तैसा अभिमानु ॥
As is honor, so is dishonor.
ਤੈਸਾ ਰੰਕੁ ਤੈਸਾ ਰਾਜਾਨੁ ॥
Thaisaa Rank Thaisaa Raajaan ||
तैसा रंकु तैसा राजानु ॥
As is the beggar, so is the king.
ਜੋ ਵਰਤਾਏ ਸਾਈ ਜੁਗਤਿ ॥
Jo Varathaaeae Saaee Jugath ||
जो वरताए साई जुगति ॥
Whatever God ordains, that is his
way.
ਨਾਨਕ ਓਹੁ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਕਹੀਐ ਜੀਵਨ ਮੁਕਤਿ ॥੭॥

नानक ओहु पुरखु कहीऐ जीवन मुकति ॥७॥
O Nanak, that being is known as
Jivan Mukta. ||7||

पारब्रहम के सगले ठाउ ॥
All places belong to the Supreme
Lord God.
ਜਿਤੁ ਜਿਤੁ ਘਰਿ ਰਾਖੈ ਤੈਸਾ ਤਿਨ ਨਾਉ ॥

जितु जितु घरि राखै तैसा तिन नाउ ॥
According to the homes in which they
are placed, so are His creatures named.
ਆਪੇ ਕਰਨ ਕਰਾਵਨ ਜੋਗੁ ॥

आपे करन करावन जोगु ॥
He Himself is the Doer, the Cause of
causes.
ਪ੍ਰਭ ਭਾਵੈ ਸੋਈ ਫੁਨਿ ਹੋਗੁ ॥
Prabh Bhaavai Soee Fun Hog ||
प्रभ भावै सोई फुनि होगु ॥
Whatever pleases God, ultimately
comes to pass.
ਪਸਰਿਓ ਆਪਿ ਹੋਇ ਅਨਤ ਤਰੰਗ ॥
Pasariou Aap Hoe Anath Tharang ||
पसरिओ आपि होइ अनत तरंग ॥
He Himself is All-pervading, in
endless waves.
ਲਖੇ ਨ ਜਾਹਿ ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਕੇ ਰੰਗ ॥

लखे न जाहि पारब्रहम के रंग ॥
The playful sport of the Supreme
Lord God cannot be known.

जैसी मति देइ तैसा परगास ॥
As the understanding is given, so is
one enlightened.

पारब्रहमु करता अबिनास ॥
The Supreme Lord God, the Creator,
is eternal and everlasting.
ਸਦਾ ਸਦਾ ਸਦਾ ਦਇਆਲ ॥
Sadhaa Sadhaa Sadhaa Dhaeiaal ||
सदा सदा सदा दइआल ॥
Forever, forever and ever, He is
